Compliance Requirements

Age and Consent Rules

  • Tattoo: 18+ absolute, no parental consent pathway.
  • Piercing: consent allowed, mode: written consent.
  • Intimate piercing: 18+ only.
  • Queensland law prohibits tattooing persons under 18 (Summary Offences Act 2005 (Qld) s.19).
  • Intimate body piercing (genitalia or nipples) of persons under 18 is prohibited (Summary Offences Act 2005 (Qld) s.18).

Licensing Requirements

  • QLD requires both an Office of Fair Trading (OFT) Operator Licence and a council Personal Appearance Services (PAS) Premises Registration under the Public Health (Infection Control for Personal Appearance Services) Act 2003.
  • Practitioner licence required (Tattooist Licence Number (OFT)).
  • Secondary licence required (Council PAS Premises Registration Number).
  • Infection control certificate required for practitioners (Infection Control Certificate (HLTINF005)).

Sterilisation and Record-Keeping

  • Sterilisation records required.
  • Retention period: 36 months.
  • Monthly biological indicator testing mandatory. 3-year record retention required.

Session Documentation

  • Written aftercare instructions required for tattoo procedures.
  • Ink batch number recording required.
